After a 28 hour winter power outage, I decided to get a generator to keep our housing essentials alive... like heat, refrigerator, microwave, etc. I bought this generator because it had a good price and ratings that would handle my needs, plus extra starting power for motors. The listing said it could take 10 days to arrive, but it only took three days. I did some wiring to allow me to connect the generator to our electric dryer outlet. Then I took it outside on a cool day, poured in a little bit of gas, turned off the main house breaker, and plugged it in. It started on the first pull, and then we turned on the furnace and then let everything else in the house just work naturally until it ran out of gas about an hour later. This generator powered it all with no problems. Some people were without power here for 7 days. I highly recommend this unit.

Epcom 85 Watt Polycrystalline Solar Panel - 5 year warranty Review

Within 3 months, this solar panel started showing cracks on the cells (not the glass, but inside), and some discoloration. To be fair, I've not taken the panel off of my array to test if it's generating less electricity, but I don't believe it will last much longer. I have bought 8 panels, total, different ones at different times, and this is the ONLY solar panel that has ever showed ANY wear at all.

My original review is kept here: I've had the panel for just 2-3 weeks. So far, we have actually gotten a little better performance than what is rated in the specs. It has some easy to use connectors, if you want to add more panels to your solar system, especially more Epcom panels, it should be quite easy.

HQRP Solar Charging Kit (20W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 20 Watt Power Square shape, 10A Solar Charge Power Controller / Regulator 12V / 24V 10 Amp w/ Lighting Control) + HQRP UV Tester Review

I had the same problem as others at first: when there was sunlight, the controller wouldn't put out power to the load. Yes, you can go straight from the battery, but then you miss out on the controller's load shut-off function, and unless you're around to manually disconnect the load, you'll run down the battery.

The manual is VERY difficult to read on account of the poor translation, but it definitely says you can use the controller as a general purpose controller "without light control ways" [sic]--but then it doesn't say how to set it to this function. After some back-and-forth with HQRP, they finally told me to set the Work Mode to 16 (even though the chart in the manual indicates that 16 will still use the light sensing function to keep the load output off when there's sunlight). I unhooked everything and started over, hooking up the battery, panel, and load, and setting the controller to 16. After making this change, it worked fine (i.e. it put out power in daylight).

Caveats: 1) I didn't have my meter when I was doing the test, so I can't vouch for any of the voltage levels for the controller; however, I had previously tested the panel and it put out around what it's rated. 2) I had the panel in direct sunlight for almost my whole test (~3 hours) and only a small load, so the battery never got low enough to force the controller to stop putting out power to the load (so I don't know for sure whether Mode 16 does everything it's supposed to).

My only other quibble is that the wires coming from the panel are very light gauge. Probably sufficient for the output, but still annoying in working with connectors if you're connecting to a heavier gauge.

I'm giving it a 3 because it's functioning now (and is still a great bargain), but to me clear and accurate documentation is part of the product, and so points off for the time and frustration of dealing with that. I'll come back and update this review if anything goes wrong once I start actually using this thing full-time.

Had this charge controller running for about 18 months on 6 72 watt panels, its working good. Plenty of info on the lcd and nice low consumption. About to upgrade though to a much bigger mppt charge controller as I want to be able to do more and its always good to increase performance as well.
