Champion Power Equipment 41302/41311 7,000 Watt 389cc OHV Gas Powered Generator With Electric Start Review

Where I am a storm took down allot of power poles and after not having power for one day and it looked like longer; I searched and bought this generator.
Granted I didn't buy it from amazon; but time was not there to have it shipped in.
Setup was easy and everything you needed except the gasoline was there.
I made special adapters to energize the wall outlets in my house; BUT DON'T YOU DO IT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT FROM MAIN POWER VIA BREAKERS BEFORE YOU DO.... YOU DON'T AND YOU CAN ELECTROCUTE SOMEONE ON THE POWER GRID.....
This generator put out a sine wave in power - good for electronics....
This generator ran two refrigerators, one freezer, plasma 42" screen, two computers, my network and house lights ( they are all CFL's )...
I didn't even hear the generator grunt under the load.
The specs says 10 run time on 6.5 gallons at 50% load meaning run it at around 3000 watts and you get ten hours before refilling gas tank.
I was getting 9 hours.
This generator has some thoughtful and cool features; there is a switch to turn on an led lighting strip above the control panel and a digital voltage indicator showing output voltage. This is great when using voltage sensitive appliances.
It is just me but after an run on the generator like I did for TWO SOLID DAYS, I drained and replaced the oil. The thing didn't hiccup once.
This looks like a keeper.
I am now looking at building a sound proof box for it to get it a little quieter; 74 decibels is loud.. about two to three lawnmowers running and maybe adding to the exhaust pipe with out creating additional back pressure would work.
I am also now looking at converting it to run also on propane. For backup this is the way to go. Propane doesn't screw up the carburetor like gas does and gas has a very short shelf life..
Also the cost of gas now days propane is way way cheaper than gas.. My two day run on gas cost me 60.00 where I can buy propane for 3.00 a gallon...
If you are already using propane or natural gas for your house you are all set. For natural gas as long as you have gas you can run the generator.
My house is all electric and I am not able to use piped in gas.
I am also considering getting a switch over assembly so when power goes out it will automatically disconnect the house from main power and switch over to the generator. As I previously mentioned UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING you will have to hire an electrician to do the work..
