I highly recommend this if you are thinking of getting a solar system but have no idea what all you need to buy to get into it. After watching this it is much easier to not only estimate your cost (which is much less then paying someone else to do the system and setup - which more then paid for the DVD), you can decide if you want to tackle the project.

In terms of wiring up your home for off-grid living, home wiring falls into an Electrician field, the book was made for the average Joe, so expecting it to contain home wiring is a stretch as it isn't something you want to chance. I personal think extension cords and a fuse right after inverter should suit my needs. If I need a better set up in the future I would hire an electrician.

I also liked the length of the video, I couldn't imaging sitting through a 4 hour one unless I was going to get a certification afterwards.

Also worth thinking about, if you live on the gird, and get a grid tied inverter, some power companies won't give you there rebate if the system wasn't installed by a certified installer (which in my State has some heavy requirements - including being an electrician).

MC4 Solar Panel cable Connector Male & Female, 1 Pair Review

While these fit any other MC4 connector, they have an advantage I don't see on other connectors - there are tabs that allow you to disconnect them without the need for tools. To clarify what I'm talking about, see the picture I added. Simply pinch those tabs and pull the connectors apart. Very nice for those of us who take solar power to mobile locations, like while camping, and have to break a system down for transport. I'm buying another pair to replace the ones that came with my panel.

For price did not expect Honda or equal quality - just wanted some thing to replace my old EM 500 - followed start up directions and engine did start - be careful not to over choke on start up - problem is it does not generate electricity and engine runs eradically - it is not "sound suppressed" in any respect so you will not be using in camp ground or where others are around - filling out warrantee on company website requires purchase address ( do not know Amazon address ) so that did not work well - will attempt another start up and let engine run awhile to see if it lights run light and actually generates - if not, will return to Amazon for credit and try another model. Will update review if it actually works UPDATE - had to replace AC circuit protector ( faulty ) - was more simple than returning - after running for about 1/2 hr at 800W ( 4-200W light bulbs ) load, engine settled out and runs smoothly - easy gas shut off so you can let carb run dry on shut down - starts now with two pulls on rope - just do not over choke when hot. Unit comes in a pretty substatial cardboard box with opposing lift handles - excellent for storing unit while not in use.

Further comment 3-16-13 -- naturally about 13 months after purchase so return not capable or guarantee valid - Generator was used as emergency supply for essential lighting and computer supply during utility outage -- total run time from receiving generator is less than 5 hours, last started 11-12. I always on shut down let unit run out of gas by shutting off gas valve and store gas with proper amount of perservative and change gas out every 3-4 months (CA gas is terrible for storage)

Well - unit does not start now - I did normal M&O and switches are OK as well as replaced spark plug - not flooded - took out spark plug and grounded it out and no spark in plug - so ingition system has a problem. Try and cross reference spark plug from original !! Finally found a match but still would not spark

Since I can not return it and would not trust it anyway in emergency now I just wasted about $400 13 months ago. Problem is I also bought my Daughter a 500i for her camp outfit and wonder about it now.

My suggestion is never buy this unit and put out thge extra money initially for a Honda unit - Honda's have always worked for me even though more money - at least they are dependable and do not fail right after a year guarantee + you can find spare parts easily. What a waste.

We bought this generator to power my family's food vendor booth. We needed a little more power than the average portable generator, with electric start, without having to go overboard on cost, and it had to be CARB compliant. This Powerland generator covered all those bases.

It arrived in perfect shape. Even the box it came in looked great. The ABF delivery guy did an awesome job. He was professional & courteous, and careful when unloading our generator.

When we unpacked it, we couldn't help but notice how perfect it looked. Not a ding/scratch. Nothing was bent/dented. Everything was in place/intact.

Assembly instructions were a little lacking for the wheels & handles, but it wasn't complicated to put together. No other assembly was necessary.

After preparing the generator (adding oil, fuel, etc.), we did a test start. Started on the first try! Btw, the battery came charged, so we didn't even have to pull-start on the first run.

The generator was a little louder than I expected, but after comparing it to other smaller generators nearby, it sounded about the same. I noticed other vendors had made enclosures for their generators, so we'll probably do the same. Other than that, our Powerland worked flawlessly, all day long with no straining, overheating, or overloading. Other vendors couldn't help checking it out. They liked its size & power, couldn't believe how much we paid for it.

Btw, the manual that did come with our Powerland provided all the information we'll need for maintenance/operation. It listed recommendations for storage and other specs/electrical diagrams. My brother (whose trained & experienced in heating/refrigeration) was very satisfied with the manual.

The Powerland is exactly what we needed. For the price, you just can't beat it. If we ever need another generator, Powerland is the first company we'll check out.

With ten circuits, I didn't have any trouble hooking up the majority of my house to my generator. I like the two watt meters that let me know how much of a load the system is using. I do have one complaint. The transfer switch is 30 amp but there are no 30 amp breakers. There are six 15 amp and four 20 amp breakers. That means you cannot (at least in my case) connect your water heater to your generator through this transfer switch even if you have a 30 amp capable generator. I lose power four to five times a year for a couple of hours to a couple of days at a time. My water tank will stay warm for about two days so in the event of a late night electric disruption the first thing I do is hook up the generator and the second thing I do is take a shower!

UPDATE:
I wanted to know what actually happen when I have only one or two charge lights on (not blinking); is it charging in this case? So today I rigged up some
plug and I connected a power analyzer between the storage battery and the pannel. I placed the solar pannel against the window so I don't have direct sun light.
in this set up, I got two non-blinking charge lights and the power analyzer reported a current of 0.0 to 0.03 Amp entering the storage battery (most of the time,
there is no current at all). So this means that when the charging lights are not blinking even if they are on, there is not much charging going on.

On the other in direct sun light, it is different. In this case, the lights are blinking and I can get something like 0.3 to 0.5 Amp.

I always have the storage battery (one that came with the backpack) plugged into the pannel. I found that even when I am not using the battery to charge anything,
it will drain quickly when it is not being charged in the sun light. For example after being out of the sunlight for 12 hours, I lost one charge light. It went
from 4 charge lights to 3. I do not like the almost-to-nothing documentation that came with this product. It never explain any of this. Why is the battery
drain too quickly when I am not using it?

I finaly get enough summer sun light to test this backpack charging ability. This is what I found. The storage battery's charging lights will only be blinking
sequentialy (indicating that the battery is being charged) when in direct sun light. When not in direct sun light (like near a window), the charging lights are not blinking, but one or sometime two charging lights will be on. What
does this means in this case? Is the battery being charged in this case? I really do not know (the documentation is not clear on this). I assume
that the battery is being charged at low capacity (at least I hope that is the case) and I also assume that
the number of lights that are on indicate the charging capacity.
Also even in direct sun light, the solar panel's output charging current is not as high as the current drawn by the cell phone so when I am charging my Nokia cell
phone while walking or riding my bike in direct sun light, the storage battery will be drain. This means that my cell may not be completely charged and the
storage battery may be completely drained. This is especially true if the storage battery is not fully charged at the start of a charging session. This is disapointing because what is the point if I have to fully charged the storage battery at home before begining a trip. I would like to be able to charge my cell and still have enough excess current to charge the storage battery as well. The longer I use this backpack, the more I am disapointed with its performance.

Well I have been using this backpack for 4 months now and it is ripped in a dozen places. I have had it repaired three time
now. I am not happy! Please do not buy this product. I am lucky I am traveling outside the US where there are many shops
that will repaire my backpack. In the US where there is no such repair shops, this backpack would have been completely useless and I would
have thrown it away after a few months of use. I do not recomend buying this backpack.

Due to the winter I have not be able to test the solar charging feature. But the backpack fabric quality is terrible!
When I ordered this backpack, I picked the charcoal pennel. But I got an email from the seller telling me that they "accidentally"
shipped the silver pennel. They wanted to know if that is OK or I can wait two extra days and they will ship me the charcoal pennel.
I thought it's not a big deal so I say OK, I'll take the silver one.

Well when I got the backpack, it had a small wear near the pennel zipper that made it hard to zip an unzip the pennel pocket. I was not
happy but I did not want to deal with returning and reshipping so I let it go. I know, I can not say for sure that they intentionaly sent me
faulty backpack but I am saying I did get a weird feeling in this case. If my subspicion is correct, I think it is extremely unprofessional of
them.

I had not used the backpack until a month ago when I went on a 200km biking trip. On this trip the backpack fabric torned (ripped) in three places.
All near the front pocket. It was not the threading that got ripped. It was the fabric near the threading area the got ripped) Fortunately, I was traveling in an Asian city where they can repair backpack. Thus I had it repaired and it seems fine.
but I have to be very carefull to not load the backpack too much again.

I owned two other non-solar backpacks and I regularly overloaded ( to a much higher degree than I loaded the solar backpack) them for a year now and it never ripped.

It is winter time so I have not fully test the solar charging feature but where I was biking, there considerable sun light and my cell phone
almost completely drain the battery in the backpack. Thus at this point I don't have much confident in the solar charging feature but I will
wait until summer time to test in full direct sunlight and I will give an update.
