The Solar-X Brand charge controller (SunTracer 12V-10L- LVD) is used as a component for our companies Mountain Top Solar Repeaters. We used these to replace malfunctioning Morningstar Sunsaver 12V-10L -LVD Regulators. We are very happy with the Solar-X units. I was able to mount it straight to the battery box back-plate with some nuts and bolts and the fittings that go to the battery were exactly the size I needed. We are using Industrial Grade 85 W crystalline solar panels (also manufactured by Solar-X Model: MSX-KC85) the controller is delivering a steady and fast charge to our batteries. The 110 amp hour battery gets charged back from 25% to 100% in about 6 hours. The indicator lights are easy to read and are accurate. We will be using Solar-X Components for all our future Solar repeater Systems.

This brand and particular model is similar if not the same as KingCraft, Homelite, and several other brands made or powered by Jiangsu Jiangdong Ltd. gas and diesel engines. There are differences in this model and it has been sold for the last several years in the 6,000 watt size with engines of 291cc to 338cc and horsepower ratings of 9 to 13. Sooooo. . . . it may be necessary to scrutinize. Based on my calculations the 291cc version is probably close to 10HP and is the one I have. Yet the units that were/are sold with 328cc are not rated for anymore than 6,000 watts. Perhaps the size of the generator unit itself?

Anyway, I assembled mine with the wheel kit in about 20 minutes using wooden blocks to support it. It is a bit of a beast and so take care. Once assembled, I put a gallon of gasoline in it and 1 quart of motor oil in the engine turned the gas valve on, set the choke and it started on the first pull. The 291cc engine is quite a bit quieter than my Honda 5.5HP lawn mower. I was concerned I would have to keep it a distance from the house. But I tested it right up on our concrete patio next to the patio door, and with all doors closed you can hear a soft drone, but way less than my neighbor's lawn mower at 8AM. :) I let it run twice for 20 minutes each with two 1,500 watt heaters plugged in and it ran fine. Even my wife thought it would not keep us awake if we were without power for several days should that be necessary.

Buyers should take note that in order to properly connect this unit up to your home, safety steps and proper installation is required. Here is a link from Washington State on several means to connect it according to code:

I recommend a circuit breaker interlock kit, along with a 30amp Reliance brand outside power receptacle, and a mating twist-lock L14-30 plug and connector to make up a 10/3 cable with ground. Do a search on the net for "Generator Interlock Kit" and there is a helpful video on YouTube about those also. Depending on the distance to you circuit breaker panel, you may need to by 50' to 75' of 10/3 cable with ground also. For my installation, additional materials as just mentioned cost about an extra $190, but I already had an interlock device which is another $145 or so. Please don't be unsafe and try and back feed the power through a jerry-rigged connection for you and your family's safety!

That's about it. After I get to use this should a power outage occur I will try an update. The quality of this unit appears as good as many name brands, and, in fact, may be the same as some "house brands" at home supply and hardware stores.

I just got this yesterday, overall quality of the item is good, but whoever put this kit together didn't do good job.
1. It came with about 25 feet of solid copper wire, I think 14 gauge,(don't quote me on it though), NOT stranded.
2. The wire nuts were used to connect panels to wiring.
3. The inverter power input is up to 24V, that should have been in the description.
4. The panels are 21volt each, also should have been in description.
5. Does not come with any mounting hardware.

I had to go out and but stranded wire to install this properly. Since the inverter take up to 24V I cannot use it in serial, to increase voltage (about 40V) so I could use higher gauge wire. I have to use 6awg and that is not cheap.

Overall it does what it should, I wish it had more in the description so I can make a better decision before buying.

After considerable research on which Whole House Generator to purchase, I decided on the B&S 40396 system. As this was a complete package with Transfer Switch. It was exactly what I needed as my Utility Power is a 400 amp service, split between two 200 amp incoming lines to two 200 amp Electric Panels. So the installation of this system was "just what the doctor ordered." Having been an amazon.com customer for many years, I felt very confident in ordering the system from amazon.com, as they have stood by several problems I have had over the years, and needless to say this was a large purchase.
Shipping was very fast! The generator actually arrived in less than a week. But when I unpacked the shrink wrapped box, there was no Transfer Switch enclosed. I had to wait until the next day to open up the actual generator, as I thought the Transfer Switch may have been packed inside. Well it was not there either. I found the amazon.com customer service phone number, after a google search and called. After explaining to the agent that the Transfer Switch was not shipped as it should have been could she check if it was shipped in a different shipment. After being on hold for several minutes, she came back on the line and said this was a large system order and I would need to talk with the large equipment department. And they are closed, as they are only open M-F 8a-6p PT. So I would need to call back during those hours and I would have to go through the same thing all over again, i.e. calling customer service, explaining the problem, missing Transfer Switch and then be connected to the Large Equipment Department, hopefully with no further delay.
I called the next morning, got through to the Large Equipment Department, and the agent said, "I didn't know this generator came with a Transfer Switch." I told him to read the description for the product, IT COMES WITH A TRANSFER SWITCH. WHY DO YOU THINK I ORDERED THIS GENERATOR SYSTEM? He said he would need to check with Briggs and Stratton, I could either wait on the line or he could call me back. I said, how about call me back, as I had been on the phone too long as it was. In about 45 minutes, he called back. Said he didn't have any luck talking to anyone in Sales at B&S, but did find someone that confirmed that this system does in fact come with a Transfer Switch. As he could find no inventory through amazon.com he suggested that the fastest way for me to get the Transfer Switch I was due would be to order it from a different vendor. He was able to give me a vendor that had the Transfer Switch in stock and he could put through a credit to my account for the cost of the Transfer Switch, $1800. What choice did I have? I wanted to get the Transfer Switch as quickly as possible and the generator had arrived with no damage. I needed to schedule the electrician for the installation, etc. Good thing I had not made a firm commitment with him!
I went to the new vender website and had to create an account, as I had never heard of this vendor. I created an account and ordered the "new" Transfer Switch. I have not received a shipment email yet, but I hope to have the Transfer Switch delivered by the end of the week. This will mean that it will have been 8 days since the delivery of the generator. And yes, I did check. The correct model generator was delivered.
In the future, I would hope amazon.com would do a better job of shipment quality control for these large equipment orders.
As far as the generator goes, the build quality is good. A few loose wiring holddowns, could have come loose during shipment, but certainly easily fixed during the installation phase. I am looking forward to having the piece of mind of having a fully automatic generator and not having to get out of bed in the middle of the night to get out my gas portable generator, plug it in and fire it up. Just waiting for that day to come!!!
