I am assuming this generator is essentially the same as the Black Max 7000/8750 as the specs look the same and the engine is the Honda GX390 I own the Black Max. This review is on the engine only. After about 50 hours of uses (two storms, first one Irene, generator was run for 20 hours, the second, the freak Oct Northeast snowfall it ran over 80 hours). Overall the unit works well EXCEPT:I changed the oil after 20 hours as recommended in the Honda manual. At 50 hours, the engine started blowing oil over the muffler, cylinder head , carb and bottom of the fuel tank and my driveway. Being in the middle of a 10 day power outage, not much of a chance getting this thing repaired much less replaced. Further investigation found the oil was coming from the overhead valve cover. Bolt appeared tight. Interesting to note, that I also have a Honda engine (6.5 horsepower) on my power washer. It too leaks oil from around the valve cover. I replaced the gasket on that one, but it still has a minor leak. No luck anywhere around here finding parts for this Honda engine, so I cleaned the gasket, cleaned the flange and reassembled and that seems to have for the moment fixed the problem. I still have a very minor oil leak, but I can live with this one until I can get the unit serviced.
Seems odd that my two dissimilar Honda engines have the same oil leak issue. My Techumseh, Briggs and Subaru (Overhead valve) engines don't leak. I will be very wary of purchasing anything in the future with a Honda engine.
